At the Annual General Meeting of the Port Harcourt branch held today, 26th July 2018, held at the Bar Centre, the Branch voted against the Eastern Bar Forum, EBF, adoption. The meeting, presided over by Branch Chairman Sylvester Adaka, had in attendance Okey Wali, SAN, and other senior branch members.
Earlier, the meeting granted audience to Professor Ernest Ojukwu, SAN, and other candidates who were present to address the branch. Unlike the last time that Okey Wali stopped Paul Usoro, SAN, from addressing the branch until prevailed upon by O.C.J. Okocha, SAN, the candidates were granted unfiltered access to address the branch.
It will be recalled that Port Harcourt branch which has the highest number of votes within the EBF has always been a flagship branch in the South East and South South regions of Nigeria. With this development, however, a deadly blow has been dealt to the frenzied adoption vocalists whose main strategy has been to rely solely on the so-called adoption of the EBF.

Earlier in the week, in an interview granted to THISDAY on Tuesday, 24th July 2018, immediate past President Austin Alegeh, SAN, said no to adoption declaring “When a candidate is saying, ‘you must adopt me first’ then where is your universal suffrage? Adoption is an assault on universal suffrage.”
